About

The Comprehensive Assessment and Treatment (CAT) Program at the University of Utah Huntsman Mental Health Institute (HMHI) offers a 4-6 week, comprehensive clinical evaluation for ages 4-17 in a safe and secure environment. The HMHI CAT program mission is focus, clarity, direction. Our multi-disciplinary treatment team will assess psychiatric and medical conditions, provide behavioral and educational assessments, psychological testing, therapy and when necessary, address chemical dependency issues. Our program consists of inpatient care in our beautiful, state-of-the-art facility, which includes secure outdoor play area, ROPES challenge course, psychological and neuropsychological testing, therapy provided by our psychologists, medical evaluation provided by our board-certified pediatricians, active family involvement throughout the assessment period and appropriate evidence based treatments throughout the program with daily contact with the psychiatrist. Too often children and adolescents enter treatment programs without an accurate diagnosis or a clear understanding of what is to be gained by the treatment. The CAT program will help provide an understanding of the child/adolescent and create a dynamic, individual treatment plan that will facilitate the most appropriate match of community resources with the patient's specific needs. This program also provides comprehensive assessment and treatment for young adults (YA CAT) for ages 18-30 in a residential like facility ~20 minutes away from our hospital in Murray, UT.
