Description of Services : RACHEL B. SOBEL, Ph.D., LCSW, CEP is a licensed clinical social worker with special training in child and adolescent psychopathology and learning disorders. She holds a doctorate in Counselor Education and is a Certified Educational Planner. She founded COLLEGE POSSIBILITIES to address the unique needs of students with learning, social, emotional, and/or behavioral challenges. Her more than 30 years of experience working with adolescents and their families as a psychotherapist, college counselor, and educator, informs her approach to helping students and families. Rachel routinely visits colleges and therapeutic programs (wilderness, therapeutic boarding schools, residential treatment centers, psychiatric facilities, gap/transitional/emotional growth, and recovery programs) around the country. During her college visits, she meets with representatives from the Disability Support Services Office and with college admission counselors to learn about new programs and admission trends. When visiting therapeutic programs, she meets with staff and students to learn who is best served at each program. Rachel is a former Board member and Officer of the Independent Educational Consultants Association and is currently a Commissioner and Chair of the American Institute of Certified Educational Planners. She is a highly sought after speaker for professional and parent groups throughout the country on topics that relate to the specific needs of students whose paths to their future may not be traditional.
