NATSAP Statement on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ April 15 Report on Autism Prevalence

Addressing the Rising Autism Rates: A Call to Action for Collaborative Support, Prevention, and Equity

The National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSAP) acknowledges the recent report from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention highlighting an increase in autism prevalence among children in the United States.

NATSAP believes that access to comprehensive mental health and behavioral health care is a critical component of overall well-being. As part of the continuum of care, NATSAP supports efforts that expand access to early intervention, therapeutic services, and family support systems for children and adolescents.

As national conversations continue around autism, developmental disabilities, and childhood behavioral health, NATSAP supports continued research, data collection, and collaboration across disciplines to better understand and respond to these growing needs. It is essential that all sectors—public and private, educational and clinical—work together to meet families where they are and provide the care and resources they need.

Looking Ahead

NATSAP reaffirms its dedication to supporting children and families through compassionate, individualized services. As the landscape of youth mental and behavioral health continues to evolve, NATSAP will remain a committed partner in building a stronger, more inclusive, and informed system of care. We look forward to working alongside researchers, providers, policymakers, and families to ensure that all children have the opportunity to thrive.
