Make America Health Again (MAHA) Focuses on Children’s Health
Within the larger context of the Trump Administration’s mantra to “Make America Great Again,” there is a concerted effort within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to focus on children. Several initiatives are being highlighted to bring clarity to root causes of childhood chronic diseases. Pointing to the future, HHS said that “today’s children are tomorrow’s workforce, caregivers, and leaders—we can no longer afford to ignore this crisis.”
By concentrating on food, health, and scientific systems the MAHA program has announced a “strategic realignment” to “live longer, healthier lives, supported by systems that prioritize prevention, well-being, and resilience.”
In a statement promoting “Make Our Children Healthy Again,” the White House and HHS seek to gain a greater understanding of the health issues facing America’s children today. The Department is working with science and medical communities to identify what it deems as the “four potential drivers behind the rise in childhood chronic disease that present the clearest opportunities for progress.” This is an ever-evolving area of concern as the advancement of biomedical research and public health can help examine determinants of quantity and quality of life.
