About
Journey Academy serves 9 - 12 grade Educational Related Mental Health Services (ERMHS) youth from districts and SELPAs across California with established Individualized Education Plans (IEP’s) for Emotional Disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Other Health Impairment, and/or Specific Learning Disability. Recognizing the strong link between ASD/ED diagnoses and youth who identify as LGBTQ+, we support youth of all genders and gender identities. We are a highly inclusive setting recognized by the Human Rights Campaign for our work with LGBTQ+ students and families. Our staff and clinicians are trained to address and support anxiety, depression, ADHD, school avoidance, suicidal ideation and other diagnoses that can impact academic and social functioning.
Journey Academy's residential program is a trauma-informed 24/7 residential treatment center that supports the development of independent executive functioning and coping skills so that youth may consistently engage with school, with relationships and with their community. Students receive the structure and therapeutic support of residential care from a highly trained staff who regularly collaborate with the clinical and school teams in order to provide the services of each youth’s IEP. Each student has their own room and is able to participate in off-campus activities like outdoor adventure, work study, and community events. Students are able to practice the skills they learn throughout their time at Journey Academy to build confidence and self-efficacy in support of a transition to a less restrictive environment.
Our residential treatment services can operate as a supportive “step-down” program for youth transitioning from out of state placements as well as a more structured environment for youth who are struggling to maintain safety and stability within their current homes and/or schools.
