About

New Haven empowers adolescent girls, ages 14-18, with the skills to overcome life's traumas. The word that comes to mind when describing the girls who come to New Haven, is powerful. We specialize in complex issues such as trauma, family problems, relationship issues, depression, anxiety, self-harm, suicidal idealization, attachment, eating disorders, substance abuse, and personality disorders. Most of the students we work with are struggling with two or more of these challenges. Our girls are smart and capable but come to New Haven burdened by months or years of emotional pain or behavioral dysfunction. For these girls, things have stopped working at home, at school, and in life. However, our experience working with complex emotional and psychiatric issues means that 80% of our graduates never need another residential placement. We know that every one of our girls is part of a family system that is also suffering and has experienced trauma, so our treatment approach brings nurturance, healing, and support to the whole family. New Haven students come from all over the United States and the world. We welcome international students. Young women need a framework for positive decision-making based on values such as compassion, service, creativity, and integrity. Without such a framework, navigating the storms of adolescence can seem impossible. The New Haven Values Program creates an opportunity for our students and their families to connect as they discover, clarify, and live out their own and their family's values. Doing so allows them the opportunity to create, repair, or strengthen its own unique foundation. Resilience, beauty and strength is renewed in the family.
