Wilderness Therapy Program
About
RedCliff Ascent, founded in 1993, is a therapeutic wilderness treatment program for adolescents and young adults who struggle with emotional, behavioral, and substance use disorders. Most of the students who attend RedCliff are also struggling to manage their lives in an age-appropriate way and lack the coping mechanisms, competencies, and discipline necessary to manage their life. RedCliff Ascent therapists are all Ph.D. or Masters level clinicians. The clinicians oversee and individualize the clinical services provided. The clinicians work with students to help them achieve their therapeutic and personal growth goals. RedCliff uses the wilderness to disrupt dysfunctional systems and behaviors that are enabling the student and family distress. The focus on disrupting dysfunctional systems allows for a unique perspective and allows for increased clinical clarity of what is contributing to the individual and family dysfunction. Additionally, RedCliff provides age-appropriate experiences to help students reengage in treatment and to promote healthy growth and development. RedCliff is licensed and regulated by the State of Utah. We are accredited through the Association of Experiential Education and The Joint Commissions. We are a member of the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSAP) and a founding member of the Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare Council (OBHC). RedCliff Ascent is also an evidence-based treatment program. Enrollment at RedCliff Ascent is open-ended. The length of stay varies depending on treatment goals and needs; however, the average length of stay is 10 weeks.
